Whether you are looking for huge transformation
or small positive shifts in your life, this inspiring program
motivates students to live from a higher level of well-being on
all levels! In 40 Days to Personal Revolution, Baron Baptiste
-- one of the world's most beloved master yoga teachers -- inspires
us to transform more than body and mind: He gives us the tools
we need to set ourselves free to live the healthful life we've
always imagined. In the next 40 days you will create a whole new
way of being and living. Tapping ancient wisdom and his own personal
experience, Baron has created a relevant and completely practical
program that will lead you to the clarity of mind, body, and spirit
that awaits on the other side of your revolution.
Baron's Basic Laws of Transformation, based on timeless principles
of growth, serve as the philosophical underpinning of the 40-day
journey and demonstrate that radical change can come from making
even the smallest shift. The program itself is divided into six
weeks, with the seventh day of each week devoted to active rest.
Each week builds on the lessons of the one preceding it and includes:
• a yoga practice to do every day
• principles to cleanse your body, along with a specific
eating plan
• instructions to begin and deepen a meditation practice
• excavation questions to root out limiting beliefs and
patterns
Baron ends with a section on Daily Practices for Living an Enlightened
Life, to help you maintain your new state of mind and health in
every moment of your life. From here you will go beyond your revolution
and discover your own personal purpose and way of living.

40 Days to Personal
Revolution: A Reflection by participants Mark & Amy Van Hollebeke
"Daily life can
take it out of you. Whether its hectic workdays, dealing
with bad traffic and office politics, the pressures of trying
to be the “perfect” parent and spouse, or figuring
out a way to live a healthy and meaningful life in a chaotic world—or
some combination of all these—life can be tough. Finding
something that sustains and feeds us in our adult lives is essential.
Besides the physical benefits, this is why many of us incorporate
yoga into our lives. My wife, Amy and I found ourselves
wanting to go one step further. We knew that a committed
yoga practice could make a profound difference in one’s
life and that is what led us to Shakti’s “40 Days
to Personal Revolution” program.
What’s a personal
revolution, you ask? On the program side of things, it means
practicing yoga six days a week. It means committing to
dietary consciousness—including giving up one or more of
your dietary vices (like overconsumption of sugar, alcohol, or
caffeine) and completing a 3 day fruit cleanse. It involves
a meditation practice every morning and evening, and a willingness
to engage in self-reflection and journaling. It means a
commitment to community, including group meetings every Sunday
for six weeks, and willingness to support—and seek the support
of—a “yoga buddy” throughout the program.
On this practical front, a personal revolution simply means committing
to oneself and one’s well-being.
But the program is
more radical than that. And actually, it seems perfectly
consistent that a program based on a “revolution”
would be radical, right? Looked at etymologically, to be
radical—from the Latin radicalis—simply means “of
or having roots.” In this context, a personal revolution
is the radical act of returning to one’s roots, one’s
original or essential nature. It involves the fundamental
task of reminding yourself who you really are and what you wish
to do with this one life you have.
Out of the last four
years, Amy has participated in the 40 Days to Personal Revolution
program at Shakti three times, including the very first year it
was offered. I’ve completed the program twice, finding
its lure hard to resist after having seen what it had done for
Amy. We both find it a powerful spiritual “spring
cleaning”. It is a time we set aside each year to
return to a sense of deep rootedness and to recommit to living
life consciously and without holding back. For Amy that
means reminding herself of the power of her everyday attitude—shifting
her vision to see the true goodness in other people and the beauty
in everyday lived experiences. For me it means trying to
get out of my own way, recognizing that I am a work in progress,
and having as much compassion for myself as I strive to have for
others.
Could we do this on our own without
Shakti’s 40 Day program? Certainly, it is possible.
Amy and I have discovered that anything is possible if you put
your mind to it and truly commit. That said, what Lisa and
Peter have created with the 40 Days program at Shakti is a framework
for assisting people in realizing their own personal life transformation.
The program is a vehicle that gives us the means and structure
for pursuing our own true selves.
Are we there yet? One thing we've discovered is that it is
more about the journey than it is about achieving some fixed goal.
It's about replacing bad habits with good ones, discovering tools
that enhance everyday experience, and bringing the positive benefits
of yoga off the mat and into the world. As for the 40 Days program
reminds you, life is always presenting opportunities to practice
yoga. We are truly grateful for that."
