Gina
Skene
Gina has always loved to move. She studied ballet and modern dance for
many years, earning degrees in modern dance and education. Everything
came together when she discovered Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga with Lisa
Black in 2002. She immediately felt empowered by this practice that
enlivened every part of her body, mind, and spirit. After realizing
that yoga also helped her heal chronic injuries, Gina was excited to
share these possibilities with others by teaching.
Gina is continually inspired by the freedom that she finds practicing
yoga and that she sees students find in their own practices. After a
practice she loves to see that look of sweat, smiles, and bright and
shiny eyes in her students! She believes that finding physical challenge
in a practice peels away layers of tension and connects us on a deeper
level. Gina knows that although yoga initially seems like a self-practice,
at its essence it connects us to each other and builds community.
Gina teaches regularly at Shakti East and West and is Director of Teachers
for all three studios. She has completed Level 1 and Level 2 with Baron
Baptiste, teacher trainings with Lisa Black and Shiva Rea, anatomy intensives
with Ellen Heed and has studied extensively with Troy Lucero and Richard
Freeman. She also doesn’t mind the spontaneous inversions that
her husband and 3 children do at home all the time.
