Statement
The technique I currently work in is Acrylic Mixed Media. I start
a painting by adding abstract texture and color to the canvas.
I leave the canvas to sit for a while and by observing I allow
the image to reveal itself to me. I delight in the way the abstract
texture and color evolves with each layer and how a feeling or
image comes forth. At times the result is purely abstract and
other times the most simple forms and pleasures in life come through.
This process has been very freeing and has shown me a new way
of expressing myself creatively. I feel less expectation and not
pressured to create, the image moves freely through me and what
comes out is pure and true.
I found I could say
things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way
- things I had no words for Georgia O'Keeffe
I consider myself an expressionist painter. My paintings range
from images that depict, that which is common, to the abstract
expressions of the spirit. The process of creating provides a
means with which I can express from within what is going on, in
my life, the world in general, and that which I have little control.
The world today doesn't make sense, so why should I paint
pictures that do?
Pablo Picasso
I have found the best thing I can do as an artist is to get out
of the way and the let art come forth. I am grateful for being
able to pick up the brush, after so many years away from it, to
finally express myself, and I look forward to the surprise of
seeing what lies ahead.
Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record
the reactions of his personality
to the world he lives in.

Artist Biography
Gay Seydlitz was raised in Chicago IL where her father
worked from home as a freelance Graphic Designer. She grew up
surrounded by his drawings, art was a part of every day life.
Winning various art awards throughout grade and high school she
began creating professional artwork with her father at the age
of fifteen, working on design and layout of Sears circulars. After
high school she attended the American Academy of Art, 1980 –
1983, and graduated with an Associates in Graphic Arts. She worked
as a Graphic Designer and Art Director in Chicago from 1983-1988.
After moving to the west coast she worked as a Production Artist,
Print Buyer, Post Production Project Manager and Studio Coordinator
within the advertising and graphics fields in Seattle from 1989
to the present. The last seven years she has held the position
of Photo Studio Coordinator at RRD Iridio. Throughout the years
she has been involved in art and craftwork but it was not until
a few years ago, with the steadfast encouragement of her husband
and son, she decided to try her hand at fine art painting. It
is at this mature stage she feels she is able to truly express
herself on canvas. Gay hopes this is just the beginning of a long
awaited calling and looks forward to the surprise of seeing what
lies ahead in her artwork. She has attended various painting,
drawing classes and workshops given by various artists in Seattle
whom she admires. In the past few years she has shown her work
at Art Not Terminal Gallery, Edmonds Art Festival, Iridio Georgetown
Artwalk, the Iridio Gallery and now the Ballard Artwalk in Seattle
WA.
